Dr. Jennifer McVige of the Dent Neurological Institute, a pediatric neurologist, speaks with Joyce Graff and Robin Martinez about headaches.
We discuss what makes migraines different, and the many advances in diagnosis and treatment of headaches, including a new addition to the available options for treating migraines in adults and teens.
39 Million people suffer from headaches, and 28% of teens have migraines. They may be misdiagnosed as sinus headaches, but they can be seriously debilitating if not treated early, at the onset of the headache. Nerivio (nerivio.co) is a device that provides rescue at the beginning of the headache. It has been approved for people 12 and above, adding a new non-drug intervention for children.
She shares the experiences of herself and her two teenage daughters, all of whom suffer from migraines.
Cefaly (cefaly.com) is a similar device with a somewhat different method of action which has been approved for adults, but not for teens.
